All currently enrolled GVSU students are eligible to audition. You do not have to be a music major.

Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Orchestra - audition information is posted below. You may learn more about our Symphonic Band and Concert Band at gvsu.edu/bands and Orchestra at gvsu.edu/orchestra.

All brass, percussion, string and woodwind students enrolled in applied music lessons are required to participate in Symphonic Band (MUS 112, MWF 1-2:20), Orchestra (MUS 103, TR 2:30-4:20) or Concert Band (MUS 102, MWF 2:30-3:50), except Bachelor of Arts majors who may elect other ensembles as indicated in the student handbook. You will play a single audition and will be placed in an ensemble based on the audition committee's decisions. Music majors and non-majors who are not enrolled in applied music lessons may elect to only audition for one ensemble, but will not be guaranteed placement in that ensemble.

Those students not enrolled in applied lessons who are only interested in auditioning for the Concert Band, please click here for your music and information.

Auditions will be conducted behind a screen and require the preparation of a specific set of musical pieces which is available below.

Audition results for Symphonic Band and Concert Band will be posted Sunday evening, August 26, and rehearsals will begin on Monday, August 27. Audition results for Orchestra will be posted on Monday, August 27, and rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, August 28.

Note: Please show up 15 minutes prior to the designated audition time block for your instrument. You will need to fill out an audition form. After submitting your form, you will be assigned a number and will then audition in numerical order behind a screen for the audition committee.
